IntipSeleb – MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) 2019 telah mengumumkan daftar nominasi. Tahun ini ada lima grup musik K-pop masuk nominasi, yaitu BTS, Blackpink, EXO, Monsta X, NCT 127 dan TXT. Kelimanya memperebutkan trofi untuk kategori baru, Best K-pop.
Ajang penghargaan yang rutin digelar sejak 34 tahun silam ini dibuat untuk mengapresiasi karya-karya visual terbaik di industri musik, tidak hanya dalam ranah hiburan Amerika Serikat tapi juga seluruh dunia. Selain Best K-pop, satu kategori baru lainnya yakni Video For Good, didedikasikan untuk musik video lagu yang bermakna positif.
BTS mendapat empat nominasi sekaligus, termasuk kategori Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, dan Best Choreography dari lagu hit mereka dari album Map of the Soul: Persona berjudul Boy With Luv.
Sementara itu, Ariana Grande dan Taylor Swift adalah dua penyanyi yang memimpin nominasi tahun ini dengan mendapat masing-masing 10 nominasi. Kemudian diikuti oleh penyanyi pendatang baru di VMA, Billie Eilish dengan 9 nominasi dan Lil Nas X yang meraih 8 nominasi, keduanya sama-sama akan bersaing untuk memenangkan kategori Best New Artist.
“Ini merupakan tahun yang luar biasa dalam (industri) musik dan para nominator yang dengan sempurna mencerminkan keseluruhan dari musik pop. Kami tidak sabar untuk melihat hasilnya setelah para penggemar ikut berpartisipasi (dalam VMA 2019). Ini akan menjadi malam yang luar biasa dan tak terlupakan,” kata Bruce Gillmer selaku kepala talent dan musik dari MTV International, seperti dikutip dari laman TeenVogue.
Mulai dari 23 Juli hingga 15 Agustus, para penggemar dapat ikut voting untuk 20 kategori berbeda lewat situs resmi VMA (http://www.mtv.com/vma/vote/). Nantinya, seluruh pemenang nominasi akan dibacakan pada 26 Agustus mendatang di Prudential Center, New Jersey, Amerika Serikat dan dipandu oleh Sebastian Maniscalco.
